Aviation Day linked a public celebration to questions of infrastructure and future investment
At the opening of Aviation Day 2026, then-mayor Nikolay Rashkov and airport board member Antoni Tarnitsov described progress toward restoring the airport’s operational potential. The municipality said security equipment and other required systems had begun to arrive.

The event brought together the Bulgarian Aviation Industry Association, German Embassy representatives, Diamond Aircraft, municipal leaders and other guests.

Galina Raycheva highlighted the relationship between aviation and tourism, while participants discussed the need for cooperation across public and private institutions.

Silvia Djagarova and Magazine Banker Special also featured in the event’s wider circle of participants and media connections, alongside the businesses and institutions discussing the airport’s future.

The story has a political timing issue: Rashkov submitted his resignation on 20 October, three days after the event. Coverage published after that date should identify him as mayor at the time of Aviation Day and avoid implying his office is unchanged.
