René Barbera, Florian Sempey and Alisa Medvedeva join the Filharmonie Brno under Maestro Arkady Beryn for the Operngala-Nacht on 2 November 2026.

On Monday, 2 November 2026, the Großer Saal of the Philharmonie Berlin will host the Operngala-Nacht, bringing together three internationally established soloists, the Filharmonie Brno and Maestro Arkady Beryn for an evening of opera and orchestral music.

American tenor René Barbera comes to Berlin with a career that has taken him to many of the world’s leading opera houses. In 2011, he became the first singer to win all three top prizes at Plácido Domingo’s Operalia competition. He has since appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Opéra national de Paris, the Vienna State Opera and the Bavarian State Opera.

French baritone Florian Sempey is particularly known for his interpretations of Rossini and has performed at major houses including the Opéra national de Paris and the Royal Opera House in London. His signature roles include Figaro in The Barber of Seville, and in 2022 he was appointed Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

Soprano Alisa Medvedeva, a graduate of the Saint Petersburg Conservatoire, has performed internationally at venues including Dubai Opera, Wiener Stadthalle and Mozarthaus Vienna, with further appearances in Paris, Monaco, Porto Cervo, St. Moritz and Bucharest.

The soloists will be accompanied by the Filharmonie Brno, one of the Czech Republic’s principal orchestras. Founded in 1956, the ensemble has a long international history and regularly appears beyond its home city of Brno.

The evening will be conducted by Maestro Prof. Arkady Beryn. With more than forty years of experience, he was Chief Conductor of the Internationale Symphoniker Deutschland from 2003 to 2011 and has since appeared with orchestras including the Berliner Symphoniker, the Bochumer Symphoniker, the Camerata Salzburg and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. He has shared the stage with Aida Garifullina, Roberto Alagna, José Carreras and Maxim Vengerov, and a German reviewer once summed him up in a headline: “Dirigent Beryn ist der Star”.

The programme brings together well-known opera highlights with orchestral works, moving between solo arias, duets and full symphonic passages. Music by Mozart, Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Bizet, Verdi, Puccini and Tchaikovsky will form part of the evening, with the three soloists appearing both individually and together.

The setting is the Philharmonie Berlin’s Großer Saal, designed by Hans Scharoun and opened in 1963. Home to the Berliner Philharmoniker, the hall is recognised internationally for its distinctive architecture, with the stage positioned at the centre and the audience arranged around it in terraces.

The Operngala-Nacht takes place at the Philharmonie Berlin on Monday, 2 November 2026 at 20:00.
